报告题目:Topological Design for Advanced Cellular Composites and Their Frontier Applications
报告人简介:
Dr. Zhen Luo is an Associate Professor at University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He received his
PhD degree from Mechanical Engineering, HUST in 2005. He worked as a research fellow for 6 years more, respectively, at Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Sydney, and University of New South Wales. His current research interests include topological optimisation, uncertainty analysis-based design optimisation, mechanical metamaterials and composites, multiscale modelling and simulation, and additive manufacturing. Since 2005, Dr. Luo has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, including 89 JCR-Q1 journal papers, with Scopus citations up to 3000 times (h-index 30). He has received several competitive and industrial research grants, and supervised over 10 PhD students.
报告摘要:
This seminar is focused on computational design of cellular composites with mechanical metamaterials and microstructures, as well as their applications in engineering. A multiscale topology optimization method with level sets is developed and then applied to achieve topological designs concurrently at different scales, and several benchmark examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the topological optimization approach for creating new generation of composite structures.

报告人简介:
Dr. Lee "Mickey" Clemon, P.E. received his Ph.D. and M.Sci. in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and his B.Sci. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas. He was research and development engineer on custom systems for hazardous material processing and additive manufacturing process development from 2011 to 2017. In May 2018, Dr Clemon became a Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, in the School of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering. Dr. Clemon works in advanced manufacturing and high consequence design. He focuses on the interplay of materials, design, and manufacturing for a healthier, more reliable, and environmentally conscious industrial world. Dr. Clemon is active and engaged in the practice of engineering as a registered professional engineering in the State of California, member of codes and standards committees for ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Sec VIII, Div 3 and Standards Australia on MT-006, and leadership skills trainer for ASME’s executive level volunteers.
报告摘要:
This seminar provides process improvement and material property manipulation in advanced manufacturing processes, with an emphasis on additive and hybrid additive-subtractive manufacturing through particulate, wire, layer, and ensemble fabrication methods informed by computational mechanics and simulation, as well as systematic design methodologies for product optimization in additive manufacturing.
