Abstract

I will first give an overview of our research on various topics including hydrodynamics of bluff bodies, buoyancy driven flows, thermal boundary layer, and heat transfer enhancement, as well as our ongoing work on urban heat island and urban environment. I will then introduce a recent numerical study on enhancing heat transfer by natural convection using a self-oscillating flexible baffle. In this work, an immersed boundary-lattice Boltzmann method (IB-LBM) is adopted to solve the coupled thermal-fluid-structure interaction (TFSI) problem. The effects of various flow and baffle parameters on the dynamics of the flexible baffle and consequent heat transfer performance will be discussed. It is revealed that a flexible baffle is superior to a rigid baffle for enhancing heat transfer.
