Q : How to apply for the exchange program?
A : You will receive an email with the application link and the password for the SJTU online application system after being nominated in our system by your home university (for university-level exchange students) or the relevant school at SJTU (for school-level exchange students).

Q : Can the Chinese students apply for the exchange program?
A : In principle, the international students have the priority for the exchange program.
Q : Why it fails to upload the documents during the online application?
A : Please transfer your documents to proper format (.jpg or .pdf), and it is recommended to upload in Chrome and Firefox.
Q : What if my passport is about to expire but can’t get the new passport before the application deadline?
A : If you can’t get the new passport in time, please apply with the old one, and send the picture of your new passport to the International Student Center (isc.exchange@sjtu.edu.cn) asap.
Q: How can I know I’m admitted?
A: You’ll receive the email to indicate your admission.
Q: When and where can I receive my admission package?
A: The admission package will be posted to your home university on June and December.
Q: Does SJTU provide on-campus accommodation?
A: Yes, both in Xuhui and Minhang Campus. However, since the rooms are limited, we can’t guarantee the on-campus accommodation for every exchange students. As no on-campus dorms are provided to visiting students, they have to find their own accommodation outside in Ziroom, Minhang Garden and so on. Q: How to apply for on-campus accommodation?
A: All the exchange students will have the chance to book the rooms online during the same period, and the time will be around January and July. The accommodation booking notice will be attached in the admission package.
Q: What should I do if I have questions regarding to the accommodation and the reservation system?

Q: When will the accommodation be available to check in?
A: Generally, students can move into the on-campus accommodation 3 days before the registration date indicated in your admission notice.
Q: Can I bring my family or friends to live with me in my student dorm?
A: It is forbidden to have others stay overnight in student dorms, and there is no such family rooms for you to apply for.
Q: How can I find the off-campus accommodation?
A: Please refer to the http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/EN/content.aspx?info_lb=260&flag=3 for more information about the off-campus accommodation. Also, there are homestay options near Minhang Campus and the information will be sent with the admission notice.
Q: When should I move out of dorms?
A: Students should move out in one week after the semester ends.
Q: When and where should I do the registration?
A: The time and location will be on your admission notice, and generally, the registration day will be about 4 days before the semester begins.
Q: Will I get my student card during registration?
A: Yes.
Q: What should I do if I can’t register on time?
A: You can move into your student dorm at any time, and please register on weekdays after your arrival asap.

Q: Do you have the orientation for new students?
A: Yes, the orientation will be at the end of the registration, and we’ll tell you the time and location by email and during the registration.
Q: How can I apply for visa?
A: All the documents for visa are on your admission package.
Q: How to apply for the Residence Permit and multi-entry visa?

Q: Where can I find the course introduction?
A: Please refer to the school coordinators for their course lists.
Q: When can I choose the courses online?
A: It will be after the semester begins, and the duration are different for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. More details will be released during the orientation and by email.
Q: How can I choose courses?
A: Please refer to your school coordinator for help.
Q: How can I know my study level?
A: You can know that by your student number, “7***” in undergraduate level and “J***” in postgraduate level.
Q: Is there Chinese Language Program for exchange students?
A: Yes, the elementary Chinese language course (4 credits)is free for all the exchange and scholarship students. Besides, if you are not in the Intensive Chinese Language Program, university-level exchange students and scholarship students are free to choose two modules (8 credits) from the Intensive Chinese Language Program, but the school-level exchange students should pay for it.
Q: Can students choose courses from other schools?
A: Usually, the courses within your current school is available for you, but it is not allowed to choose courses from other schools. Please contact the school coordinators for more details.
Q: What’s the consequence if I miss the online course enrollment period?
A: You can’t add or drop any courses after that period, and the grades of all the courses you choose in the system will be on your transcript.
Q: If I’m a scholarship student, how can I receive my scholarship?
A: All the scholarship students should sign in the scholarship according to the relevant notices sent to you, and then the allowance will be sent to your bank account monthly. Please contact isc.o@sjtu.edu.cn if you have any question refer to your scholarship.
Q: If I’m a scholarship student, do I have to pay for the rent in advance?
A: Yes,you need to pay the rent in advance.
Q: When can I get my transcript?
A: We’ll post your transcript to your home university on March and October.
